Baked Beans on Toast

A British staple that's dead simple and surprisingly satisfying. Heat the beans, make the toast, put one on the other. That's it.

Allergens: Contains Gluten (bread). Check baked beans label for other allergens.

Ingredients

  • 1 can (15 oz) baked beans
  • 2–4 slices bread
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Optional Extras

  • Shredded cheese on top
  • A fried egg on top
  • Hot sauce
  • Salt and pepper

Equipment

  • Small pot or microwave-safe bowl
  • Toaster or skillet

Instructions

  1. Heat the baked beans in a small pot over medium heat until warm, about 3–4 minutes. Stir occasionally. Or microwave in a bowl for 2 minutes.
  2. Toast the bread and butter it.
  3. Spoon the hot beans over the toast. Top with cheese, a fried egg, or hot sauce if you have them.

Notes

  • With a fried egg on top this becomes a very complete meal — protein, carbs, and fiber.
  • Cheese makes it better. Shredded cheddar melts into the hot beans nicely.
  • This is legitimate food. Millions of people eat this daily. Don't knock it until you try it.
  • On a baked potato: Same concept — beans on a potato instead of toast.
  • Any bread works. White, wheat, even a hot dog bun.
