Baked Cereal Snack Mix
A crunchy, savory snack made from cereal, crackers, and butter. Like Chex Mix but with whatever you have.
Allergens: Contains wheat (cereal, crackers) and dairy (butter). Check cereal labels for additional allergens.
Ingredients
- 6 cups cereal (Chex, Cheerios, or any plain cereal)
- 2 cups crackers (broken into pieces)
- 4 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
Optional Extras
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Pretzels
- Granola bars, broken up
Equipment
- Large baking sheet
- Large mixing bowl
- Oven
Instructions
- Heat oven to 250°F.
- In a large bowl, mix the cereal and broken crackers together.
- Melt butter and mix with vegetable oil. Pour over the cereal mixture and stir until everything is coated.
- Add garlic powder, onion powder, and salt if you have them. Stir again.
- Spread the mixture on a baking sheet in an even layer.
- Bake for 45 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes so it toasts evenly.
- Let it cool completely on the pan. It gets crunchier as it cools.
- Store in a sealed bag or container.
Notes
- Mix and match cereals. Any combination works. Chex and Cheerios together is classic. Rice Krispies add crunch.
- This is a great way to use cereal nobody wants to eat plain. If the pantry gave you cereal and nobody's eating it for breakfast, turn it into a snack.
- Keeps for a week in a sealed container at room temperature.
