Prep: 2 min Cook: 3 min Total: 5 min Servings: 1–2 Difficulty: Easy

Allergens: Contains Gluten (bread). Contains Dairy if using butter.

Ingredients

  • 2–4 slices bread
  • ½ cup applesauce
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Optional Extras

  • Cinnamon (strongly recommended)
  • Honey or sugar sprinkled on top
  • Peanut butter spread underneath
  • Granola on top for crunch

Equipment

  • Toaster or skillet
  • Small pot or microwave (to warm applesauce)

Instructions

  1. Toast the bread and spread with butter.
  2. Warm the applesauce in the microwave for 30 seconds or in a small pot for 1–2 minutes (or serve it cold — still good).
  3. Spoon the applesauce over the toast. Sprinkle with cinnamon if you have it.
  4. Drizzle with honey or sprinkle sugar on top if you want it sweeter.

Notes

  • Cinnamon makes this. Without it, it's fine. With it, it tastes like dessert.
  • Cold applesauce is fine too. Warming it up is just a nice touch.
  • Add peanut butter. Spread PB on the toast first, then top with applesauce for a more filling version.
  • Dairy-free: Skip the butter or use vegetable oil.
  • For kids: Cut the toast into strips for dipping into a bowl of applesauce.
