Gravy and Rice Bowl
Hot rice smothered in gravy with whatever protein you have. Simple comfort food that comes together in minutes.
Allergens: Contains wheat (gravy packet). Check packet for additional allergens.
Ingredients
- 2 cups rice
- 1 packet gravy mix
- 1 can (12.5 oz) canned chicken, drained
Optional Extras
- Frozen peas or mixed vegetables
- Salt and pepper
- Butter
- Canned corn
Equipment
- Pot with lid for rice
- Small saucepan
- Can opener
- Whisk or fork
Instructions
- Cook rice according to package directions.
- While rice cooks, prepare gravy according to packet directions in a small saucepan.
- Drain canned chicken and break it up with a fork. Add it to the gravy and heat through for 2-3 minutes.
- If using frozen vegetables, add them to the gravy and cook until warmed.
- Serve rice in bowls, topped with chicken gravy.
Notes
- Any protein works. Canned tuna, sliced hot dogs, vienna sausages, or even just a fried egg on top.
- No gravy packet? Use cream of mushroom or cream of chicken soup thinned with a little water. Same idea.
- Stretch it: This is one of those meals where a little protein goes a long way because the gravy and rice do most of the work.
