- 1 medium onion, diced
- 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
- 3 tablespoons tomato sauce (or ketchup)
- 2 ½ cups water
- Optional: Garlic powder, Salt and pepper, Chili powder, Shredded cheese stirred in at the end
Equipment
- Large pot
- Knife and cutting board
- Stirring spoon
Allergens: Contains Gluten (pasta). Check mustard label for additional allergens.
Instructions
- Brown the ground beef in a large pot over medium heat, breaking it into small pieces, about 5–7 minutes. Drain off excess fat if there is a lot.
- Add the diced onion and cook for 2 more minutes.
- Pour in the water. Add the mustard and tomato sauce. Stir to combine.
- Add the uncooked pasta. Season with garlic powder, salt, pepper, and chili powder if you have them. Stir everything together.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to medium-low. Cover and cook for 12–15 minutes, stirring every few minutes, until the pasta is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed.
- Taste and adjust seasoning. Stir in shredded cheese right before serving if you have it.
notes & tips
- The sauce thickens as it sits. If leftovers seem dry, add a splash of water when reheating.
- Ground turkey works just as well. Same steps, same timing.
- Stretch it further. Add a drained can of corn or mixed vegetables with the pasta.
- No tomato sauce? A few tablespoons of ketchup works in its place and gives it a slightly sweeter flavor.
