Ingredients

  • 1 box macaroni and cheese (any brand)
  • 4 hot dogs, sliced into rounds
  • Butter and milk as directed on the box

Optional Extras

  • Ketchup or mustard on the side
  • Frozen peas stirred in
  • Extra shredded cheese
  • Salt and pepper

Equipment

  • Medium pot
  • Colander or strainer
  • Knife and cutting board
  • Stirring spoon

Instructions

  1. Cook the macaroni according to box directions. Drain.
  2. While the pasta cooks, slice the hot dogs into thin rounds.
  3. Return the pasta to the pot. Add the butter, milk, and cheese powder as the box directs. Stir until creamy.
  4. Add the sliced hot dogs. Stir and cook over low heat for 2 minutes until the hot dogs are warmed through.
  5. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Brown the hot dogs first for extra flavor. Cook the rounds in a little oil until crispy, then add to the mac.
  • SPAM instead of hot dogs. Dice and pan-fry until crispy.
  • Add vegetables: Frozen peas or corn stirred in at the end add color and nutrition without changing the flavor much.
  • Leftover mac and cheese: Reheat with a splash of milk to bring back the creaminess.
