Ingredients

  • 1 lb pasta (spaghetti or any shape)
  • 1 jar (24 oz) spaghetti sauce
  • 4–6 slices bread
  • 3 tablespoons butter

Optional Extras

  • Garlic powder (for the bread)
  • Shredded cheese on top
  • Ground beef or canned chicken in the sauce
  • Italian seasoning

Equipment

  • Large pot
  • Colander
  • Baking sheet or skillet
  • Oven or stovetop

Instructions

  1. Cook the pasta according to package directions. Drain.
  2. While the pasta cooks, warm the spaghetti sauce in a small pot over low heat.
  3. Make garlic bread: Spread butter on each slice of bread. Sprinkle generously with garlic powder and a pinch of salt if you have them. Toast in the oven at 375°F for 5–7 minutes until golden, or cook butter-side down in a skillet over medium heat for 2–3 minutes.
  4. Serve pasta topped with sauce and garlic bread on the side.

Notes

  • No garlic powder? Buttered toast is still great alongside pasta.
  • Add protein: Brown ground beef or stir in canned chicken to the sauce.
  • Cheese toast: Add shredded cheese on top of the buttered bread before toasting for cheesy garlic bread.
  • Leftover pasta: Keeps well for 3 days. Reheat with a splash of water.
