Baked Sweet Potato Fries
Sweet potatoes cut into sticks and baked until crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. A side dish or snack that's naturally sweet and satisfying.
Allergens: None of the major allergens as written.
Ingredients
- 2 large sweet potatoes, cut into sticks
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Optional Extras
- Salt
- Garlic powder
- Paprika
- Cinnamon and a pinch of sugar for a sweet version
- Ketchup for dipping
Equipment
- Baking sheet
- Knife and cutting board
- Oven
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Peel the sweet potatoes and cut them into sticks about ½ inch thick. Try to keep them roughly the same size so they cook evenly.
- Toss the sticks with vegetable oil and salt on a baking sheet. Spread in a single layer — don't crowd them or they'll steam instead of crisp.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy on the edges.
- Season with garlic powder, paprika, or cinnamon while still hot.
Notes
- Don't crowd the pan. This is the most important step. Use two baking sheets if needed. Overcrowding = soggy fries.
- Regular potatoes work too. Same method, same time.
- No oven? Pan-fry in oil over medium heat for 12–15 minutes, turning occasionally.
- Serve with: Any main dish, especially burgers, fish, or sandwiches.
- Sweet or savory. Cinnamon + sugar makes them dessert-like. Salt + garlic makes them savory. Both are great.
